About the Author

Jan Adkins is a self-proclaimed professional "explainer."  He has explored and explained many subjects (from wine to sandcastles, pyramids to pirates) through written word and illustration over the course of his career.  He has designed, written and illustrated over 36 books, has been associated with magazines such as National Geographic, Smithsonian, Cricket, Air & Space, and has worked with the Discovery Channel, Nova, and BBC.  An Ohio native, Jan now lives in Northern California, and happily draws the What in the World? feature for PNN every week.
